A short history of Marshmallow

As early as 2000 B.C. as in Before Christianaity
Ancient Egyptpians found an herb,Athaea Officinalis
Growing in marshes and wetlands and used 
widely as a medicine to soothe throat and chest and
to heal wounds.

Its also know that a sweet sap came from it and when
combined with a honey candy produced a gooey
substance reserved for royalty and the Egyptian 
Gods.

They boiled pieces of root pulp to get the sap.
And apparently they smoked it too to soothe the chest.

In 1800s France concocted the first modern marshmallow
by combining mallow sap with egg white and sugar.
A hard meringue was created to be sold as medicinal
candy.

In 1927 The Girl Scout Handbook created the first smore.

Today we know marshmallows for campfire treats
started in 1917....

I personally buy a couple bags for
roasting over the flame on my stove....
